Westbound I-96 lane in Michigan's Ingham County open

The Michigan Department of Transportation recently announced that the westbound lane of Interstate 96 at Williamston Road in Ingham County, Exit 117, is now open for motorists.

The goal of the Michigan Department of Transportation is to provide motorists with the highest quality of integrated transportation services to benefit the economy and to improve the quality of life.

Transportation and infrastructure have become key concerns, especially during the last several months. Experts agree that transportation and infrastructure are crucial to the economy because employees need transportation to commute to work each day, businesses need infrastructure to export and import goods, students need transportation to attend classes and workers need infrastructure projects to maintain their incomes.

The current transportation and infrastructure system within the U.S. is failing. In several cases, infrastructure has deteriorated to the point of closing roads and bridges.

The U.S. Department of Transportation published a report earlier this year, titled Beyond Traffic, to address the problems that infrastructure will face in the next 30 years. Issues cited in the report include a rising population and increasingly severe weather.
