The State of Alaska International Airport System (AIAS) hosted its 2015 Alaska International Air Cargo Summit event in Shanghai, China on October 29.
The purpose of the summit is to improve international relations with China and create synergy throughout the Trans-Pacific market. The new location for the event also sought to facilitate partnerships between freight forwarders, air carriers, and logistics service providers.
The event resulted in a memorandum of understanding between Alaska officials and the Shanghai Airport Authority. Signing the document confirmed the mutually beneficial business relationship between Shanghai and Alaska throughout the air cargo market of the Trans-Pacific.
This is the first time that AIAS, which includes Fairbanks International Airports and Ted Stevens Anchorage International, has hosted its event outside of the State of Alaska.
Improving these relationships with markets and various industries is an important part of the international airport business in Alaska. Most of the cargo traffic that is transported through the state originates from the Trans-Pacific market. The Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport, which is the fifth business cargo airport worldwide, and the Shanghai Pudong Airport, which is the third busiest, are both crucial to the air cargo supply chain in the Trans-Pacific. Keeping these relationships strong is the main reason why Alaska partnered with the Shanghai Airport Authority for the event in Shanghai.
