The U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) is a supporter of infrastructure building up the U.S. economy, and it recently helped a small business in Texas grow.
Sharon Douglas, who owns a small business in Fort Worth, Texas, is a good example of how infrastructure opportunities help the national Office of Small and Disadvantaged Business Utilization (OSDBU). Her story was a told in a recent blog entry on the USDT's website.
Douglas owns Bradley Douglas Construction Company. She wanted to grow her business but did not have the resources. Thanks to participating in the DOT’s Gulf Region Small Business Transportation Resource Center (SBTRC) during recent years, her business has expanded. Since 2011, it has grown its bonding capacity by 400 percent, now standing at $5,000,000 instead of $1,000,000.
Douglas attended an OSDBU Bonding Education Workshop that was held in her local region. She enjoyed the workshop so much that she went to several others in the area. Each of the workshops were made to help owners improve the daily operations of their businesses. Thanks to what she learned, she was able to double her revenue and then increase capacity and experience.
While DOT crews improve the U.S. transportation system, it also helps the local as well as national economy continue to grow. Transportation and infrastructure projects should help to make new opportunities to a variety of Americas, including small business owners.
