The Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport was recently named the second most efficient airport in a nationwide study that included the 100 largest airports based within the United States.
The study was designed as part of the national preparation for the upcoming holiday season. It evaluated seven different metrics about the airports, such as the average departure delay and the average flight cancellation.
The report stated that 0.7 percent of the flights that traveled through the airport in the last year had been cancelled. The airport also shows the lowest average departure delay, amounting to a mere seven minutes, of all the airports in the U.S.
As a member of the Alaska International Airport System, the airport is an important part of Alaska’s air travel. The system is under the management of the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (ADOT&PF). The agency also oversees 11 ferries, 249 airports, 35 communities, 720 public facilities, and 5,619 miles of highway located within Alaska.
Because of its size, Alaska is largely connected through air travel. The state is also a key part of trade and market throughout the Asia Pacific region and the U.S., making it integral to the national as well as the international economy.
