Drones will be subjected to a review from the Subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing and Trade during a hearing Nov. 19.
The review, entitled “The Disrupter Series: The Fast-Evolving Uses and Economic Impacts of Drones,” will begin at 10:15 a.m. at the Rayburn House Office Building, Room 2123.
The members of the committee will use this time to further understand how new technologies are serving to interrupt traditional approaches.
“American drone makers have shown their commitment to innovation in turning what was once seen as science fiction into a reality available to consumers and businesses across the country,” U.S. Rep. Michael C. Burgess (R-TX), chairman of the subcommittee, said. “There are many exciting drone applications in various stages of development. Entrepreneurship and innovation are part of this country’s foundation, and we should be searching for ways to position the U.S. as a leader in drone technology development.”
After the evaluation, the subcommittee will determine how drones affect job creators and consumers.
“There are, however, legitimate questions about how drones work, what technologies are being developed to ensure the public’s safety and privacy and how drones could help businesses better serve consumers,” Burgess said. “Next week’s hearing will give us the opportunity to get answers and to better understand the potential of drones.”
