Officials and leaders from the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony to officially reopen State Route 26/Water Street in Portland at 10 a.m. Friday.
This newly rebuilt roadway stands near the East Jay Middle School. The purpose of the project was to rebuild more than three-quarters of a mile of road on Water Street, from U.S. Highway 27 to Pierce Street at a terminus east of the road. The road needed full-depth pavement replacement as well as storm and sanitary sewers and water lines.
The entire urban construction project amounted to $4,244,987 in funds. The completed project will benefit people throughout the community and neighboring areas in Indiana.
The prime contractor of the project was Brooks Construction of Ft. Wayne, and Fox Construction of Indianapolis was the subcontractor for the below-ground work.
Anyone from the general public can attend the event at 225 E. Water St. Participants will include INDOT officials, contractor representatives and Portland Mayor Randy Geesaman. This is an opportunity to learn more about the project as well as the future construction of SR 25.
After the ceremony, the new route will be opened to motorists.
