Indiana’s Wayne and Henry Counties undergo I-70 restrictions

Crews with the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) implemented traffic restrictions in Wayne and Henry Counties in order to repair and resurface the pavement Friday thru Monday.

INDOT encouraged drivers to use US 40 as a detour to prevent traffic jams on I-70. Drivers had to plan ahead for recurring weeknight lane restrictions from State Road 1 to Centerville Road.

The pavement repairs for I-70 extended from State Road 1 to Centerville Road in Wayne County. Milestone Contractors, the main contractor for this project, intended to restrict only the eastbound right lane of I-70. This would have been changed if the weather took a turn for the worse. The eastbound right lane of I-70 had closures from State Road 1 (Exit 137) to Centerville Road (Exit 145), starting Nov. 20 at 9 p.m. to Nov. 23 at 6 a.m.

In Henry County, I-70 was restricted from State Road 109 (Exit 115) to State Road 3 (Exit 123). Both directions of the interstate were limited to just one lane throughout the evening as well as the overnight hours, so crews could finish the last parts of the paving contract.

This entire project is worth $9.5 million.
