Boise residents learn more about Broadway Bridge replacement

The Idaho Transportation Department is holding an open house event Wednesday to explain plans and designs for the replacement of the Broadway Avenue bridge located in Boise’s downtown area.

The project requires crews to remove as well as replace the bridge that crosses the Boise River. They will also make improvements on Broadway Avenue, from Front Street to University Drive.

The bridge needs to be rebuilt in order to meet the current standards of bridges. Officials at the Idaho Transportation Department have already finalized the project's plans.

There will need to be road closures throughout the construction project. Broadway Avenue will be closed between Cesar Chavez Lane and Myrtle Street. Drivers will need to follow a detour that encircles the work zone using Parkcenter Boulevard Bridge and Beacon Street. Crews will clearly mark greenbelt detours for motorists. The closures are estimated to last from January 2016 to fall 2016.

The work on the project will start in January next year.

Residents from the Boise community are invited to attend in order to learn more about the bridge replacement.

The open house meeting will be hosted at Washington Group Plaza, 720 Park Blvd., Boise, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
