MDOT requests feedback for transportation program draft

The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) requested public feedback for the draft of its 2016-2020 Five-Year Transportation Program Friday.

MDOT officials will soon give the draft to the State Transportation Commission for final approval, which will last until January.

The draft is available on MDOT’s website. It includes all of the projects, their locations, descriptions and the planned years for implementation. The projects involve roads and bridges as well as all public transit, highways, air, marine, rail and nonmotorized transportation in the state.

It also features information concerning the funding and projects that MDOT proposes to complete within the next five years. These transportation projects are spread throughout the seven regions within MDOT’s jurisdiction. Funding assumptions, investment strategies, economic benefits and economic impacts are outlined in the draft for all of the potential projects.

The goal of the requested feedback is to create an ongoing, interactive dialogue among MDOT, its officials and the public who use the transportation system throughout the state. This discussion about the Five-Year Transportation Program is crucial to project development under MDOT.
