The United States and Mexico recently signed a new transportation agreement focusing on the aviation business between the two countries.
The new agreement expands the air routes between the United States and Mexico by removing government interference in commercial airline decisions. The previous agreement put limits on the number of U.S. airlines that could provide flights between a city pair, but the new agreement eliminates those limits.
Another provision of the new agreement is expanded rights for all-cargo carriers. These rights will allow them to establish new routes as well as provide faster and cheaper services.
The deal was signed by U.S. Secretary of Transportation Anthony Foxx, Mexico’s Secretary of Communications and Transport Ruiz Esparza, Undersecretary Yuriria Mascott Pérez Mascott, members of the U.S. Departments of State and Commerce and aviation stakeholders from Mexico and the United States.
"I look forward to further strengthening the dynamic commercial and economic relationship between our two nations, and am hopeful that, with the support of the Mexican government, our two countries can implement the agreement next year," Foxx said.
