The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) has scheduled temporary closures in January for US 60, east of Superior, so that crews can continue their improvement construction and blasting work.
The closures are necessary so that ADOT crews can add a new passing lane as well as widen the shoulders along the roadways that are east of Superior.
The first three-hour closure will be from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m Tuesday. The second closure is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. The last closure is from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and then from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Thursday.
The construction zone is located between milepost 231 (Devil’s Canyon) and milepost 233 (Oak Flat). When the roadway is open, there will still be wide-load restrictions, narrowed traffic lanes and decreased speed limits within the work zones.
Drivers who need detours can use state routes 177 and 77. This detour is an estimated 68 miles in length, taking travelers through the White Mountains area, Show Low and Springerville. Drivers can also use State Route 87, which passes through Payson. There is also State Route 260 east, which can serve as another detour.
