The Iowa Department of Transportation (IDOT) postponed its right-lane closure on westbound I-80/northbound I-29 to Wednesday so that crews can complete repair work.
The closure will start at 9 a.m. CST and extend from the I-80/I-29 interchange (exit 4) to 24th Street (exit 2).
IDOT advises drivers who need the road to choose an alternative route, and they expect major delays from the closures. Those on tight schedules should find detours, and those who use the route for routine commutes should expect longer driving times.
Officials expect the lane to be reopened by 5 a.m. on Thursday.
This project is part of a larger, overall project to rebuild I-80, I-480, and I-29 throughout the metropolitan region of Council Bluffs, Iowa. The project is designed to modernize the current highway system. The new, comprehensive Interstate design will enhance the mobility of the area and also improve the safety of the roadway, officials said.
