The Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS), part of the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT), recently released its new Pocket Guide to Transportation 2016 to give users a quick reference guide containing statistics about transportation.

This is the 19th edition of the annual guide, which contains a wealth of information, from transportation goods and user volume, to measures of performance and use of transportation systems.

The guide also includes information about how the transportation industry affects infrastructure and safety in several communities.

The transportation sector affects the economy. People use transportation systems to travel for work and pleasure. Whether local residents are making their daily commutes to school or work, or visiting family, their transportation affects their lives.

The guide also demonstrates how transportation affects the environment through new technologies that reduce emissions and are being implemented across the U.S. All transportation systems have an impact on the environment, and leaders at USDOT are striving to guarantee that these impacts are as gentle as possible.

On the publications page of the BTS website, www.rita.dot.gov/bts/bts_publications, there is a Pocket Guide to Transportation 2016 copy available to order. The guide is also available via mobile device.
