The Iowa Department of Transportation (IDOT) will host an open house to present its proposal for improvements that are needed on U.S. 61 in Des Moines and Louisa counties.

The improvements specifically pertain to the four lanes on U.S. 61, starting at Burlington north. The improvements will end in Des Moines and Louisa counties, just 1 mile north on Iowa 78.

The public hearing will take place 4:30-6:30 p.m. Feb. 16, Mediapolis Elementary School, 725 N. Northfield St in Ames, Iowa. Anyone who is interested in the project is invited to attend.

At the public hearing, there will be a finished environmental assessment for the public to see. Right-of-way impacts also will be discussed.

There will be staff from IDOT available to discuss all of the proposed improvements in an informal setting. From 5:15-6:30 p.m., there will be a formal presentation of the information about the improvements that need to be made, then there will be a question-and-nswer session, during which time each speaker will have a three-minute limit.

Anyone who wants to give a formal presentation needs to make a note of it when they register for the event. There also will be written and oral statements during the open forum, as well as the formal sessions.
