The American Trucking Associations (ATA) recently began to accept nominations for the 2017-2018 America’s Road Team of professional truck drivers.

It is an honor in the industry to be chosen as a representative on America’s Road Team.

“Being selected as part of America’s Road Team means joining a group that represents the trucking industry as its greatest ambassadors,” Bill Graves, ATA's president and CEO, said. “These elite professional drivers lend a voice to trucking professionals from all segments of the industry and help make trucking a safer, more productive and more respected industry.”

A new group is chosen as the America’s Road Team Captains every two years. The previous members of America’s Road Team Captains usually remain involved with the program, participating in events with the new members and providing advice as mentors.

“America's Road Team Captains provide a remarkable service as industry ambassadors to help further our important issues of essentiality, safety and sustainability," Göran Nyberg, Volvo Trucks' president of North American sales and marketing, said. "They are elite professional drivers and elite educators, and we're eager to work with the men and women who will serve as the face of the trucking industry in 2017-2018 as America's Road Team Captains."

These chosen professional drivers typically have driven millions of miles without recorded accidents. As part of team duties, they leave their companies for a couple of days every month to discuss sustainability in the trucking industry and the U.S. economy on discussion panels, as well as participate in truck-safety demonstrations. The drivers meet with news media, the motoring public, public policy makers, transportation officials and students.

“Professional truck drivers, like me, are proud of the work we do each day to provide our nation with everything it needs in a safe and efficient way,” 2015-2016 America’s Road Team Captain Danny Smith, of Big G Express Inc., said. “It’s an honor to serve alongside the men and women who are passionate about trucking and committed to improving the way the public views our industry.”
