The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) this week began the final phase of its project to connect Loop 303 with Interstate 10 in Goodyear.

The project also aims to extend Loop 303 to Van Buren Street, which will connect the highway with Cotton Lane.

The ultimate goal of the $83 million project is to link the freeway-to-freeway interchange between the two roadways, which requires building the southern portion of the interchange to join the four other ramps that will unite the two routes. Crews also had to extend the southern portion of Loop 303 to Van Buren Street.

This project is the second of two phases and is expected to be completed by early 2018.

The northern portion of the interchange first opened in August 2014. Now drivers can commute from I-10 to Loop 303, north of the Interstate, in a shorter amount of time than before.

Crews will need to build the westbound segment of I-10 to connect with the southbound ramp of Loop 303. They also will need to construct the westbound ramp of I-10 to meet with northbound Loop 303.
