The National Work Zone Safety Information Clearinghouse, the world’s biggest online resource for improving the safety of roadway construction zones, launched a new website late last week that includes a new search function and expanded content.
Federal government data show that over 600 drivers and road workers are killed in accidents related to work zones every year. An additional 40,000 are injured in the same scenarios.
To resolve this problem, the American Road & Transportation Builders Association’s (ARTBA) Foundation partnered with the Federal Highway Administration in 1998 to create the National Work Zone Safety Information Clearinghouse.
Now the website, www.workzonesafety.org, covers over 200,000 information requests every year. Users can easily locate streamlined search capabilities and enjoy better access to the databases on the site. The new site features responsiveness to the user’s device, whether it is a laptop, tablet, mobile phone or desktop. The information online can be translated into six different languages – Chinese, Spanish, French, Japanese, Arabic and Russian.
Crash data, flagger information, training and other categories of the most popular information are located on the homepage of the site. It also has best practices, accident and crash data, key safety expert contact information, the latest equipment and technologies, safety standards, news, laws, regulations, programs, research publications, training videos and public education campaigns.
