The Colorado Department of Transportation (CODOT) said Fillmore Street in Colorado Springs is closed from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. and Interstate 25 is closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
nightly this week through Thursday morning so that crews can demolish and remove a bridge in the Interstate’s median, which will cause debris to be spread over roadways.
The end result of the project, which is more than 75 percent complete, will be the conversion of the current interchange into a diverging diamond interchange, which will make traffic smoother as it will allow continuous traffic flow onto and off of I-25.
Due to the closures, CODOT workers will direct traffic up and over a detour ramp. Drivers are advised to add time to travel estimates when the closures are in force. Fillmore Street’s on and off ramps from northbound and southbound I-25 will remain open, and drivers will be able to make right-hand turns only.
Detours along I-25 will be clearly marked during the closure; turn-around points will be Garden of the Gods and Fontanero exits.
The project is expected to be completed by the end of the summer. For more information and updates about road closures, log on to www.codot.gov/projects/i25fillmore.
