Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport issued the following announcement on Dec. 9.
Qatar Airways Cargo is starting new freighter service between South America and Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, operating two Boeing 777F flights per week beginning Jan. 16, 2020. The all-cargo service will transport up to 100 tons of perishable cargo to DFW Airport’s central U.S. location, facilitating quick and easy distribution throughout the rapidly growing region and offering convenient transfer options on DFW Airport’s extensive Asian freighter network.
Fresh produce and seafood will make up the majority of goods flown from South America. Other types of cargo expected on the route include live animals, pharmaceuticals, and high-value items such as telecommunication equipment and electronics.
John Ackerman, executive vice president for global strategy and development at DFW Airport said: “We are delighted with Qatar Cargo’s new scheduled South American freighter service to DFW as it further advances the Airport’s strategy for developing trade lanes between South America and Asia, Europe and the Middle East. DFW Airport has made substantial investments in cold chain capabilities and infrastructure. We achieved International Air Transport Association (IATA) Center of Excellence for Independent Validators (CEIV) community status to capitalize on the growing demand for fresher foods and ensure other time-sensitive goods are safely and rapidly delivered to consumers. This new service aligns with DFW’s goal to be an ideal gateway for connecting transit freight between South America and Asia.”
The twice-weekly flights to Campinas, Brazil, from Doha will operate via Luxembourg with the service from Campinas to Doha operating via Santiago, Lima, DFW Airport and Luxembourg, offering 200 tons on each leg.
