The American Association of Port Authorities (AAPA) said Thursday it will unveil the 2015 Port Surface Transportation Infrastructure Survey in at an April 21 news conference.
The AAPA said one-third of seaports are in need of capital enhancements by the year 2025. The survey also will cover sea to land connections in terms of transportation and freights.
“Our new survey reveals the extent to which these connectors to U.S. seaports are deteriorating, have become out-of-date and are overly congested, particularly as trade volumes continue to grow,” AAPA CEO and President, Kurt Nagle said. “Without immediate and significant federal, state and local investments, the poor condition of many of these land connections will threaten the long-term ability of our nation’s ports to efficiently move cargo, create jobs and strengthen the U.S. economy.
“To successfully compete in the global marketplace, our nation’s freight transportation infrastructure … particularly those ‘first and last mile’ links to ports … must be improved, and improved quickly,” Nagle said.
An economic impact report from Martin Associate’s on local and regional economic impacts of the U.S. deepwater port system will be included with the survey.
The news conference will be at 1:30 p.m. in the State Room of the Mayflower Renaissance Hotel in Washington, D.C.
