The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) repartnered with the Occupation Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Thursday to improve the safety in work zones along the highway.

The renewed agreement allows the partners to offer information and guidance to their members and includes access to education in the form of training resources to help members protect their safety and health within the work zones.

“We know that prevention is the key,” Bud Wright, executive director of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials, said. “Roughly 20,000 injuries occur each year in highway construction work zones. By working in an organized way the alliance is trying to bring those numbers down by improving work zone safety through education, training and increased awareness.”

The partnership also includes the National Institute for Occupation Safety and Health as well as the Roadway Work Zone Safety and Health Partners.
