AC Transit routes and schedules will now be optimized, thanks to a new partnership with Google Maps; AC Transit’s 200,000 daily public transit riders will now be able to use transit trip planning via Google Maps, providing real-time location data taken from each bus within the district’s fleet.

AC Transit’s customers can now see if the next scheduled bus will arrive at their stop according to schedule.

In addition, special service alerts directly from the website of AC Transit will describe special event or construction detours, among other temporary changes on specific routes, so commuters will be able to plan for delays.

Using the home page on the district’s website, bus riders with AC Transit can plan their trip online. There are options for planning with either the Bay Area’s 511.org transit trip planner or Google Maps.

“Google Maps is a very popular trip planning tool for our riders,” AC Transit Board of Directors President Chris Peeples said. “Adding real-time trip updates allows better planning and more certainty, and saves our riders time. It makes a great tool even better. And the addition of service notices alerts riders to current and upcoming changes such as detours due to construction, parades and other major events.”
