The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) recently launched an environmental study to gauge support and assess Interstate 11 corridor options between Wickenburg and Nogales.
The goal is to gather feedback from nearby communities and other stakeholders to help make the decision. ADOT said the new corridor aims to improve the economy and boost trade in Arizona.
Between Las Vegas, Nogales and northern Nevada, the planned I-11 could improve transportation and manufacturing for residents and commercial interests. Freight could travel more efficiently through rail and vehicles, and the new corridor could also establish a strong network for communications, trade and technology.
The environmental study will last three years and includes creating an Alternatives Selection Report to evaluate all possible constraints, opportunities and options for the corridor. There will also be a Draft Tier 1 Environmental Impact Statement and a no-build alternative.
ADOT has partnered with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and other regional planning agencies to conduct the study.
