Calling President Obama’s approach toward revising Cuban
sanctions “common sense improvements,” Associated Equipment Distributors (AED) President and CEO Brian McGuire recently issued a statement from Washington, D.C.,
commending the nation’s direction on trade with the island nation.
“We’re very pleased that President Obama has made these
additional, common-sense improvements to the Cuban sanction regulations,”
McGuire said. “This is further progress toward normalized relations that
will benefit both the American and Cuban people.”
The announcement followed the administration’s public revelation
that the U.S. government was in favor of humanitarian support, scientific
collaboration, and mutual commerce and trade with Cuba. In his statement, McGuire said more work lies ahead.
“More has to happen,” McGuire said. ”It’s time for
Congress to publicly and comprehensively review our nation’s Cuba policy, which
seems out of step with geopolitical realities, public opinion and America’s
economic interests. Until Congress acts to lift the embargo, U.S. equipment
distributors and manufacturers and other businesses cannot take advantage of
opportunities to help upgrade Cuba’s infrastructure and help the Cuban people
build a better future.”
Associated Equipment Distributors is a nationwide trade
association based in Oak Brook, Illinois. It represents businesses dealing
in construction, mining, forestry, agricultural, energy and industrial
equipment.
