Airlines for America issued the following announcement on April 10.

Airlines for America (A4A), the industry trade organization for the leading U.S. airlines, presented Bruce Nord, division manager of service engineering and vendor management at UPS Airlines, and Rusty Jones, retired senior technical specialist at the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), with its 2019 Engineering, Maintenance and Materiel Council (EMMC) Nuts and Bolts Award. The two industry experts were honored at the annual MRO Americas Conference in Atlanta, Ga.

Since 1967, the Nuts and Bolts Award has recognized individuals who demonstrate outstanding service and achievements in the engineering or maintenance fields within the commercial aviation industry.

Nord is currently chair of the A4A Airworthiness Committee providing instrumental leadership on issues of importance to the industry. He started his career with UPS in 1985 while completing his engineering degree at the University of Louisville. Nord provided key guidance on aging aircraft issues, especially removable structural components, responding to the FAA’s Damage Tolerance Aging Aircraft and Widespread Fatigue Damage rules, Airworthiness Directives policy, and multiple proposed U.S. and International rules.

Jones has served the A4A nondestructive testing and inspection (NDT) community for more than 40 years. Following a successful career with Empire Airlines, Piedmont Airlines and subsequently U.S. Airways, Jones joined the FAA, serving as both a regional and national resource specialist for NDI, and later as a coordinator for the Flight Standards Service Aging Aircraft Program.
