All westbound lanes of Interstate 10 between Benson and Tucson, Arizona, are slated to be closed for two days next week while crews work on replacing the bridge at Davidson Canyon.

The closure is scheduled to last from 9 p.m. Tuesday to 5 a.m. Wednesday; eastbound lanes will remain open. This is the first of six lane closures that are planned for the project involving the bridge located between Exit 281 (Arizona Route 83) and Exit 302 (Arizona Route 90).

Traffic will be redirected on a detour that extends 67 miles. Drivers taking the detour should plan for extra two hours of travel time. The detour uses state Routes 90, 82 and 83 to rejoin with I-10 by Exit 281. Officials recommend using an alternate route to avoid the detour and traffic.

The $15.1 million bridge project requires crews to repave three portions of I-10, amounting to an estimated 17 miles of interstate that extends from Tucson to Benson.

All westbound lane closures are necessary to enable crews to pour new bridge decks as well as set new girders. The original bridge was constructed in 1961, and it needs maintenance and upgrades.
