Officials at the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) re-striped the roadway on SR 89 today at Perkinsville Road in Chino Valley ahead of construction of a new roundabout.

The re-striping was scheduled to end at 6 p.m. local time.

Crews also are closing Perkinsville Road for approximately five weeks. When the roundabout work is finished on the east side, traffic will be sent to the west side of SR 89, which will make more room for further construction. Drivers will need to use different roads to travel to SR 89.

The $1.5 million project’s roundabout will be at the SR 89 and Perkinsville Road intersections.

Further work needs to be done to improve drainage, replace current pavement, add new pavement markings and install lighting. Officials estimate that the entire project will be finished by September.

The construction zone and closures will affect traffic in the area, but the effects will be minimal. Crew officials recommend that drivers allow for more time than usual to travel to their destinations. Motorists also must drive cautiously and slowly through work zones and remain aware of construction personnel and equipment.
