Astronics Corp., a top supplier of products in the global defense, aerospace, consumer electronics and semiconductor industries, said Wednesday it has been chosen as the new provider of the passenger service units (PSU) for the new Boeing 777X aircraft.

The new line of Boeing 777X aircraft is designed for log-distance flights. The award is currently subject to the final purchase agreement execution.

The 777X will begin to be produced in 2017. It will be the most efficient, largest twin-engine jet available. Currently, there are 320 commitments and orders for the new plane. The new aircraft will feature a wider cabin, larger windows, improved architecture and better lighting, as well as the Astronics PSU.

“We have had a long-standing relationship with Boeing on the 777 platform, and we are excited to participate on the 777X,” Astronics President and CEO Peter Gundermann said. “We appreciate the confidence Boeing has expressed in us and look forward to our product contributing to the cabin innovations and improved passenger comfort levels Boeing plans for the 777X.”
