A new partnership with Arizona State University (ASU) and the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) will provide locals with real-time weather updates for traffic flow and infrastructure safety.

The partnership is thanks to a meteorology graduate student attending the School of Geographical Sciences & Urban Planning at ASU. The student will serve as an intern at the Traffic Operations Center of ADOT and help ADOT’s crews respond quicker to weather changes so that they can clear highways and avoid closures.

“This is an exciting step forward for public safety,” Brent Cain, assistant director for ADOT’s Transportation Systems Management & Operations division, said. “This will allow us to have better information about weather conditions so we can more quickly determine how to deploy our crews and communicate with the public. All of that will make Arizona roads safer.”
