Bombardier Transportation, a leader in rail technology, recently announced that it has gained a contract to provide vehicle maintenance on the company’s vehicles for Toronto’s new Eglinton Crosstown light rail line.

According to the agreement, which will last for the next 30 years, the company will provide its own BOMBARDIER FLEXITY Freedom light rail vehicles for the line. The company will build the vehicles specifically for the new line.

Crosslinx Transit Solutions Maintenance General Partnership awarded the contract for an estimated $308 million.

Crosslinx has also subcontracted Bombardier to maintain the new Eglinton system. Bombardier will design, fund and construct the line.

Metrolinx, the agency with the government of Ontario, will coordinate and integrate all of the transportation modes throughout the Hamilton and Greater Toronto area.

“This is another expression of our commitment to Ontario,” Raymond Bachant, president of Bombardier Transportation, Americas Division, said. “This new agreement strengthens Bombardier’s leadership position as a provider of passenger rail services in North America and worldwide. Our strong services portfolio complements our innovative products and technologies, allowing us to form a true partnership with our customers throughout the entire product life cycle and to ensure the highest levels of safety, customer service, on-time performance, fleet availability and reliability.”
