The Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS), a branch of the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT), added data from September to its Airline Fuel Cost and Consumption website Friday.

In September 2014, the cost for each gallon of U.S. airline services was $2.86; in September 2015, it amounted to $1.58.

In August 2014, the cost of scheduled services from U.S. airlines was $1.68 per gallon, while in August 2015, it was $1.58.

The updated website offers information for all of the cost and consumption of U.S. services. The page also has a drop-down menu to select a service in order to view all of the scheduled as well as non-scheduled services.

The website only shares the industry summaries of the monthly preliminary fuel cost and consumption numbers. These costs can be altered with hedging, which are contracts that airlines use to limit their potential exposure to fuel price changes in the future. Airlines make up an important part of the U.S. economy.

The BTS has scheduled its next monthly webpage update for Dec. 8. The specific airline numbers for the months of Sept., Aug. and July will be released on Dec. 14 along with the BTS’s third-quarter 2015 financial update.
