The Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS), part of the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT), recently released data on airline fuel cost and consumption in November 2015.

For November 2014, the cost for each gallon of fuel used by U.S airlines was $2.57. In October 2015, this figure fell to $1.65. In November 2015, the amount fell to $1.57 for every gallon of fuel.

The industry’s preliminary fuel cost and consumption data come from industry summaries that may be impacted by hedge contracts, which involve futures commodity pricing that helps protect airlines from future price spikes.

The new data can be found on the Airline Fuel Cost and Consumption section of the BTS website, at www.transtats.bts.gov/fuel.asp. The data outline service costs, as well as consumption numbers, for all of the scheduled services at U.S. airlines across the nation. There is also a drop-down menu showing all services.

Currently, there are figures available on the website for each individual airline through September 2015; officials will soon make these figures available for October and November.
