The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) asked the general public this week to provide feedback about California Transportation Plan 2040 (CTP 2040), a statewide long-term transportation plan.
Caltrans said the plan has the potential to transform transportation infrastructure in the state, offering an outline to bring mobility to the entire state; support a strong, healthy economy; and reduce gas emissions to meet greenhouse goals through a multimodal, fully integrated, sustainable transportation system.
The department wants public input to guarantee that the plan will fully meet the state’s safety, mobility and sustainability needs. It also wants to verify that the new system will be founded on low-carbon emissions.
The plan is part of Gov. Jerry Brown’s efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. California recently committed to meeting new emissions standards, which call for reducing carbon emissions by 80 percent below 1990 levels by 2050.
“The public can play a key role in the long-term vision we are creating for California’s transportation system,” Caltrans Director Malcolm Dougherty said. “Our population is growing, the way we live and move is changing, our transportation system needs evolving, and therefore our game plan needs to be forward-thinking.”
