Peter Rogoff, the Under Secretary for Policy of the U.S. Department of Transportation, recently joined Boston leaders and officials to attend the groundbreaking ceremony of the Connect Historic Boston project.
The purpose of Connect Historic Boston is to improve the accessibility of Boston and a range of local historic sites to bicyclists and pedestrians.
“Connect Historic Boston will make it easier for residents and visitors alike to get around easily and reduce their reliance on local roads,” Rogoff said. “We anticipate that this project will dramatically improve Boston’s historic areas and inspire similar projects in cities across the country.”
The project, which is estimated to cost $23 million, will receive $15.5 million from the Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) grant. TIGER funds projects that are transformative and serve as assistance for communities striving to keep up with diverse, expanding travel requirements.
