The U.S. Department of Transportation said that in its Air Travel Consumer Report, released Thursday, the largest airlines in the U.S. recently posted reports of their improvements, such as on-time arrival rates, that were achieved in July.

The airlines reported an on-time arrival rate of 78.1 percent for July 2015. This is an increase compared to the 75.6 percent for on-time arrivals in July 2014 and the 74.8 percent rate for June 2015.

The airlines reported that they canceled just 0.9 percent of the domestic flights they had scheduled. This shows an improvement compared to the July 2014 cancellation rate of 1.6 percent and the cancellation rate of 1.8 percent from June 2015. This makes the July 2015 cancellation rates the lowest of any other July in the last 21 years.

The report includes information about airlines and their tarmac delays, causes of flight delays and chronically delayed flights. All of this information is stored with the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, a branch of the U.S. Department of Transportation.

The report also shows statistics concerning mishandled baggage reports from consumers as well as service complaints with the Aviation Consumer Protection Division.
