U.S. Sens. Susan Collins (R-ME) and Angus King (I-ME) said Monday that Dexter Regional Airport in Maine is receiving a $300,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation.

The Federal Aviation Administration said the funds will be allocated to rehabilitating the pavement on the runway at Dexter Regional Airport.

Dexter Regional Airport is three miles east of Dexter’s central business district, which makes the airport a convenient connection for business travel.

Collins and King said the funds will improve the economy of the United States by creating more jobs and further connecting communities through air travel.

“Maine’s airports serve as critical links between our communities and help to propel economic development throughout our state,” the senators said in a joint statement. “This crucial funding will provide Dexter Regional Airport with the support they need to continue to operate as efficiently, effectively and safely as possible.”

The Dexter community anticipates positive changes that these funds will bring to their area.
