The Department of Transportation (DOT) said this week that NXP Semiconductors will supply its authentication and identification services as part of the Smart City Challenge.
The DOT said this program will provide up to $40 million in NXP smart-technology integration services for the winning city, including data collection to make city operations more efficient.

The company will provide the technology to tag and track vehicle information, including smart-card circuits that will be able to support multiple sectors, including municipal services, retail and transportation. There are currently seven finalist cities competing in the Smart City Challenge contest. Other partners in the project include Amazon Web Services, Mobileye, Autodesk, Alphabet’s Sidewalk Labs and Vulcan Inc.
