The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) recently unveiled its 2016 construction-season project schedule.

This season will include road-paving projects, bridge rehabilitation, safety and traffic improvements, and other projects.

This year, the state is launching #INDOTDrivesIndiana, a Twitter site to keep Hoosiers and other driving through the state stay up to date on the more than 770 road and bridge projects scheduled to begin across Indiana during 2016.

“Preserving and improving Indiana’s roads and bridges is vital to keep people and commerce moving across the state,” INDOT Deputy Commissioner Ryan Gallagher said. “At the same time, I understand the frustration that drivers may feel when they have to contend with road or bridge closures or lane restrictions. #INDOTDrivesIndiana is about making sure we’re giving drivers the information they need to avoid backups, plan detour routes and keep the construction season stress to a minimum.”

Lt. Gov. Eric Holcomb said approximately $850 million will be spent on projects across the state in 2016. This year’s construction projects aim to improve bridges and roads statewide.

Web pages will be developed to provide motorists driving in the state with information on where construction is taking place and which roads and bridges are out of service at any given time.
