The Department of Transportation’s Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) recently announced this year’s recipients of Environmental Excellence Awards.
The award is the FHWA’s way of encouraging and recognizing the novel efforts of various individuals and companies to improve highways throughout the U.S. The projects must use a variety of methods and approaches that both encourage sensitivity and sustainability of the environment. This must be accomplished without harming the mobility of the highways.
The recipients, chosen through an independent panel of judges, include transportation departments from Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, Montana, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas, Vermont, Virginia and
Washington, D.C.
“Building a 21st-century transportation system that is cost-efficient and protects the environment requires creativity and innovation,”
Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx said. “These awards demonstrate FHWA’s support of projects that approach current and future transportation challenges with new solutions.”
The recipients will receive their awards in July at the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials’ Conference on 21st Century Mobility and Passenger Transportation in Utah.

Gregory Nadeau said. “Through innovation technologies and other means, this year’s award recipients are shortening project delivery, reducing cost to taxpayers and helping us make every day count.”
