U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) Secretary Anthony Foxx and Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker will testify before the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation on Tuesday during a hearing on the president’s fiscal 2016 budget.

President Barack Obama’s budget proposal calls for $9.8 billion in discretionary funding for the Commerce Department, and $94.7 billion in discretionary and mandatory for the DOT.

The proposed transportation budget comes as the DOT is actively seeking approval of the Obama administration’s $478 billion transportation bill, which would provide long-term funding to pay for iimprovements to the country’s aging infrastructure, including bridges and roads.

The Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee, chaired by Sen. John Thune (R-SD) oversees both departments.

The “Examining the FY 2016 Budget Requests for the U.S. Department of Commerce and the U.S. Department of Transportation” hearing begins at 9 a.m. in the Senate Russell Office Building, Room 223.

Live video of the hearing will be broadcast online at http://1.usa.gov/1Espqv7.
