The Georgia Department of Transportation recently announced that it has awarded three improvement projects that are funded by the Transportation Investment Act (TIA).
These new projects show how important the TIA Program is, as Georgia DOT is using the program to progress all of its Band 1 projects.
TIA has added roadway improvements and improved economic development by creating more work in these areas. When Band 1 is finished, TIA will have funded more than 200 projects, almost all of which were at or below budget.
TIA has $1.6 billion in investments for local governments and their necessary repairs and rehabilitation for transportation infrastructure. The program is specifically dedicated to specific regions in Georgia: Heart of Georgia Atlamaha (HOGA), Central Savannah River Area (CSRA) and River Valley areas.
“These projects represent more than just improved infrastructure for the state,” Mike Dover, TIA program manager, said. “Completion of these projects has been directly linked to increased employment opportunities, promotion of economic growth and the establishment of new businesses for these regions.
“The beauty of TIA is that no project is too big or too small,” he said. “When catering to the needs of a region, every project is significant because it impacts the welfare of the community.”
