U.S. Senator Cory Gardner (R-CO) announced that Grand
Junction Airport will receive a $3.3 million Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) grant.
Holyoke, Sterling and Wray Municipal airports will also receive funding
for a variety of infrastructure improvement projects.
“I’m pleased Grand Junction, along with several airports
across the Eastern Plains, will receive FAA grants,” Gardner said. “Grand
Junction will use the $3.3 million to finish the East Terminal Apron
rehabilitation project, which will benefit all Coloradans who utilize this
transportation hub on the Western Slope. Several airports across the Eastern
Plains will also benefit from grants that will allow them to continue to best
serve Colorado’s rural communities. I will remain a champion for Colorado at
the federal level and ensure local communities throughout the Centennial state
receive the resources they need.”
The funding for infrastructure improvements was provided
through the FY 2017 Transportation, Housing and Urban Development
Appropriations Bill, which was signed by President Obama on July 15.
The House and Senate had passed different versions of the bill, so it had to go to committee before it could be passed on to the President. As part of
the House-Senate conference agreement passed by the Senate on July 13, the
Airport and Airway Trust Fund allocated an additional $3.35 billion to support the
Airport Improvement Program.
