The Recreation Vehicle Industry Association (RVIA) said Monday that Frank Hugelmeyer will become the association’s president when President Richard Coon retires in October.

Hugelmeyer was recommended by the RVIA Presidential Search Committee. His appointment was approved by the board of directors during RVIA’s committee meetings that took place between May 31 and June 4.

“It is a special opportunity to combine my professional expertise with the outdoor recreation lifestyle that I personally enjoy,” Hugelmeyer said. “RVIA is a strong organization with an important mission. From connecting more people to meaningful experiences through Go RVing to providing innovative solutions for increasingly mobile customers, RVIA members have a bright future. I look forward to working with the talented board, management team and staff to help the association deliver outstanding value to our members.”

Prior to his appointment to the RVIA presidency, Hugelmeyer served as president and CEO of the Outdoor Industry Association based in Boulder, Colorado.

Hugelmeyer has been serving as president of Recreation Influence Strategies, LLC, a consulting firm dealing with recreation businesses and trends of consumers in this market, since November 2014. In this role, he has consulted with brands including REI, Amazon, Patagonia and The North Face.

“Frank’s proven track record of success in for-profit companies, and most recently as president and CEO of the Outdoor Industry Association, make him ideal for leading RVIA into the future,” RVIA Chairman and Search Committee Leader Derald Bontrager said.

Hugelmeyer will begin transition work with Coon beginning July 13 as president-elect and will take over the presidency on Oct. 1.
