Officials at the Iowa Department of Transportation, as well as the Iowa State Patrol, have opened Interstate 35, both the north and southbound lanes, between Ames, Clear Lake and Mason City.

The road had been temporarily closed because of blowing snow that made the road too dangerous for travel.

Now that the road is open, the wind will continue to blow snow onto the road and into the air. This is important for drivers to know as they travel on the road, which may have areas that are covered with snow and that have low visibility. These factors can still make driving on these roads dangerous.

Drivers are encouraged to check weather forecasts, as well as present road conditions, before they travel to their destinations. They should also determine whether their trip is necessary, as it can be safest to stay home instead of traveling on the roads.

Further details about the condition of roadways are available online. There are also stationary cameras available on the Iowa 511 website, http://511ia.org, or else call 511 inside the state or 800-288-1047 outside the state.
