The Idaho Transportation Department (ITD), host of the Idaho Freight Summit in Boise next week, said the event will focus on creating a statewide strategic plan that will help Idaho transport freight throughout the state.

The summit, titled “Freight – Driving Idaho’s Economy,” will be held 1-5 p.m. at Boise State University’s Student Union, in the Simplot Room.

Idaho Lt. Gov. Brad Little will be a guest speaker. There also will be ITD and Cambridge Systematics experts on hand to give presentations on several topics.

The main focus will be on how freight affects the Idaho economy, current legislation  concerning freight, an analysis of a freight-system network, and safety in the freight industry.

Participants are urged to attend breakout discussions to collect ideas and thoughts about developing a new strategic plan for Idaho’s freight industry.

“Anyone interested in the movement of freight through Idaho is welcome to attend and contribute to this important discussion,” ITD Freight Program Manager Jeff Marker said.

The public is welcome to attend the meeting. There is no admission fee, but registration must be completed by emailing [email protected] or calling 208-334-8462.
