The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) said pavement chip sealing work on State Road 227 from U.S. 36 to State Road 121

is scheduled for Thursday and continue on Sept. 8.

State Road 227 will be closed at 7 a.m. and should reopen by the end of the work day on those days.

Maintenance crews will keep access open to local traffic, like businesses and residents, while the work is being done.

All other traffic will be detoured.

There will be temporary raised pavement markings on the roadway. These will help to show the centerline for drivers and will be installed along the roadway. There will be dynamic message boards as well as work zone signage to inform drivers of the road closure and the extra caution that must be practiced.

After the chip seal has cured, workers will sweep the highway, removing the loose stones. They will also coat the road with fog seal and then paint pavement markings.

Drivers are encouraged to be extra cautious due to the road crews and loose stones, which will be on the highway as part of the asphalt’s initial cure. They are also urged to leave extra space between vehicles, as a proactive step to prevent damaged paint or windshields from stone chips.
