The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) repaired guardrails on the Interstate 65 bridges that cross Sugar Creek, Amity Ditch and Big Blue River Wednesday and Thursday.

These repairs are a part of multiple segments of a project crews aim to complete before winter break.

The contracted crews from Reith-Riley had to close the northbound lanes on I-65 to make the repairs. This repair as well as a resurfacing project, which is worth $21 million, included SR 44 in Franklin and SR 252 in Edinburgh. The entire project took up 10 miles of construction zone.

All three of the four lanes on I-65 needed to be repaired and resurfaced. The southbound right lane required full-depth concrete repairs before the winter weather starts. Crews also started placing new surface pavement on SR 44.

They also have the goal of paving the southbound right lane of I-65, starting at the north terminus and ending at Amity Ditch’s bridge.

The project also includes bridge deck overlays for Amity Ditch and Sugar Creek. There will also be a new superstructure for Big Blue River.

The project is expected to be finished with all three bridges before the winter begins. These plans are all dependent on the weather.
