Jacobs Engineering Group, Inc. recently announced that it has received a contract to offer construction inspection services for the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT).
Jacobs will inspect the rehabilitation project involving the current 4,877-foot eastbound Route 37 Mathis Bridge, which passes over Barnegat Bay. The inspection includes the double-leaf bascule section.
The construction value is estimated at $79 million. The contract value is estimated to be $7.7 million.
Traffic should not be affected throughout the remainder of the summer by the project, but will be detoured to reconfigure the traffic pattern throughout the off-season for construction activities.
As part of the contract, Jacobs will offer supervision for construction of the superstructure’s replacement. It will include all of the approaching spans of the project.
“Both the Mathis Bridge and the neighboring Tunney Bridge are used to travel on and off the barrier island from Toms River to Seaside Heights, N.J., one of the well-known summer retreats and year-round shore communities,” Randy Pierce, vice president of Jacobs Group, said. “Therefore, we are glad to partner with NJDOT to provide better and more reliable access to this popular area of New Jersey, which plays a big part in the overall vitalization of its economy.”
