Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha Ltd (K Line) recently received awards that recognize the line’s high compliance ratings along with the line’s speed-reduction programs.

The awards were given by two different ports, Long Beach and Los Angeles, for the year 2014. The Port of Long Beach awarded K Line with “Green Flag Program” for the seventh year in a row. The Port of Los Angeles awarded the company with the “Vessel Speed Reduction Program” award for the 10th year in a row.

The Port Authorities have applied these vessel speed reduction programs as a way to require vessels to follow the 12 knots speed limit within specific areas designated along the coast. The programs are designed to decrease emissions from exhaust gas when the vessels are sailing from or into the ports.

K Line was recognized for its voluntary participation in both of the programs. K Line was named a top performer, which was based on the company’s entire fleet of 170 ships. These ships represent 323 qualifying legs within 40 nautical miles in both Long Beach and Los Angeles ports throughout the year 2014.

The K Line Group is working hard to apply its own environmental program successfully. The group is also seeking to peacefully cooperate with other environmental preservation objectives that are being implemented.

Port of Los Angeles is located at 425 S Palos Verdes St., San Pedro, Los Angeles, California.
