The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) has announced that M-100 will be closed this coming weekend in Potterville.

The closure will start today at 7 p.m. so that crews can begin an innovative construction technique: a bridge slide. The crews expect for the roadway to be reopened to traffic again on November 17 by 6 a.m. The detour for the drivers will be clearly marked with signs. The detour route will use Lansing Road, Windsor Highway, and M-100.

A bridge slide requires crews to build a new bridge beside the current bridge. Then crews must slide the structure of the new bridge deck into its position. This is a new technique for the crew with MDOT.

The new bridge deck will be positioned through the slide this coming weekend. The crews must close the M-100 bridge in order to carry out their work. They must set the barrier wall and also pour the bridge approaches before the new bridge can reopen.

The bridge crosses the CN Railroad. The bridge slide will enable drivers to continue using M-100 throughout most of the construction season.

Many aging bridges throughout the U.S. need to be replaced. Investments in US infrastructure are a worthwhile cause because they boost the overall national economy for businesses across the country.
